Torganal2 is a Windows program that is designed for university and college students beginning their study of organic spectroscopy. Its main aim is to enable users to practice (and thereby improve) their skills at spectral interpretation. Its intent is not to teach spectroscopy as such.
Main features:
-Spectra of an unknown organic compound are displayed and the task is to interprete all of this information and deduce the compound's structure. After the correct structure has been selected from those displayed, spectra for another compound are then shown and the process continues.
-Hints, help and assistance are available including assignments and correlation charts.
-The amount of help etc that is available can be controlled by the instructor.
-Users can save their work and continue at a later session (file can be password protected). These features are at the discretion of the instructor.
There are 3 recommended operational modes available.
-Program design is by an experienced university organic chemistry teacher and practitioner of spectroscopic structural elucidation.
-Torganal2 builds upon the success of its predecessors WinTorg (used by thousands of students in 18 countries) and Torganal.
-Wide use is allowed within the purchasing institution. Permission will be given for network use and/or placement of copies on an unlimited number of computers of the teaching unit within that institution.
-The program is compatible with Windows © Vista and 7, and XP.
-A free demonstration version of Torganal2 is available for testing. This is fully functional and is not time limited but only 5 unknowns are included.
